Queesland, Australia

Cape York at the tip of Australia is a remote and desolate location, but it is also incredibly beautiful. The beaches are long and flat seeming to stretch on forever. I took a walk at sunset looking for an interesting composition to shoot, and noticed this lone tree stretching its gnarled branches out to sea. I camped overnight in order to catch the first light and in the stillness and silence of the new day the scene was set. Silhouetted against the delicately coloured dawn skies, the tree makes a powerful subject–it’s intricate root system a stark contrast to the clean lines of the sand, sea and sky.
